Barons not up to the challenge
2nd Oct, 2007
Weekend round-up 1.10.07
Telford's youngest ice hockey players enjoyed an 8-7 road win over local rivals Solihull Barons under-10s, although the league points will be awarded as a 5-0 victory to Venom as
Solihull were unable to assemble a full team.
The challenge game saw Venom dominant in the early stages, with Jordan Jolly scoring four goals before Solihull got on the game sheet. A hat trick from Brodie Jesson looked
enough, but the young Barons fought back to bring the score level, before Jesson added his fourth to give Telford the win.
Under-10s manager Roger Gower said: "Many of the kids started in unfamiliar positions and, along with our two newest players, did a great job to come away with a win."
Cameron Sinclair received the Spirit of the Game award.
Last week saw the Venom under-12s suffer an 8-2 defeat at the hands of reigning English champions Sheffield Samurai.
Telford went 2-0 down very early in the match, before Macaulay Heywood connected with a pass from Matt Price to pull one back. Hard work from both sides saw the play ebb and
flow between two well matched teams until Josh Holden combined with Kieran Nickless to slot home the equaliser on 12:21 during a power play.
Sheffield drew ahead 3-2 just before half time and added a fourth just 10 seconds after the break. The game continued to be very competitive but the Samurai slotted home four
more goals without reply.
Spirit of the game went to Oliver Hunt for some excellent work in both attack and defence.
