Telford Rockets v Whitley Tomahawks

The Telford Rockets have had 5 weeks to reflect on their first game away to Whitley Bay.
They came away with a draw but in the meantime Whitley have suffered 2 losses by Nottingham and one from Kingston. Manchester Phoenix making 2 wins from 3 games seam to be the dark hawks of the group. The Rockets have to win this game to keep hopes alive of finishing high in the table.
The Rockets came out blazing and they went ahead in only 21 seconds from a perfect goal by Luke Brittle ably assisted by Mike Steventon and Paul Rigby. The Tomahawks responded by scoring 2 goals, ratcheting up the tension.
Two more goals from Luke and Mike put the Rockets ahead 3-2 at the end of the first period.
With everything to play for, the Rockets game out determined to capitalise on a great start. Mike Steventon raced forward into the Tomahawks defence zone and a neat pass to Paul Rigby slotted the forth goal into the back of the Whitley net after only 54 seconds. They could not have wished for a better start of the second period.
The Tomahawks became frustrated with continued pressure from the Rockets and started to pile on the penalties.
Two more goals by Mike Steventon and Paul Rigby assisted by Luke Hayward and Callum Taylor pushed the knife in deeper and the end result was in sight.
Whitley Bay could on manage a single goal during the period and the Rockets finished 6-3 ahead.
Team confidence was now riding high and in true style Mike Steventon scored his hat trick after 52 seconds assisted by Andrew Whitehouse and James Warman. Glory was now only minutes away.
At this point the Tomahawks heads were down and had lost any hope of a come back.
The Rockets final goal came from a long pass by Edward Eaton and slotted through the Whitley pipes by Ryan Twardun.
The Rockets deserved the win 8-3 at the end of 45 minutes.
Next month we play Manchester and Sheffield home and away - a challenging month ahead.
