10s Jekyl&Hyde weekend!
26th Nov, 2007
Telford Venom U10s Ice Hockey Club returned to league duty this weekend after their tournament exertions in Scotland the previous weekend. A tough weekend of hockey was expected as both of the teams had beaten the youngsters earlier in the year.
Saturday had the kids travel North to Hull to take on a Kingston team, who since defeating Telford earlier in the year had went on a winning streak, which now saw them sitting 3rd in the North England League. The Telford lines had to be changed due to call-offs, which resulted in kids stepping into positions that they had not experienced before, however an average first period performance left the score sat at 4 1 to the home team, with a goal from Aaron Jepson assisted by Brodie Jesson giving some encouragement to the Venom for the second period. It was not to be and a disappointing display left the score at 14 2, with Jesson getting the second consolation Telford goal. Oli Johnson between the pipes for Telford getting a torrid time, which resulted in him facing 30 shots.
Sunday had the kids play guests to the high flying Sheffield Samurai, who have been beating an unstoppable path towards the National finals. The Venom were looking to improve on the previous 28 0 scoreline inflicted at Ice Sheffield, but Saturday's performance left little hope of an improvement, but what a difference a day makes. The kids came out with their sticks blazing and got in about the travelling team showing no respect for the talented Sheffield team. The team kept their discipline and stuck to their positions, but a few lapses in concentration let the Sheffield team in and they capitalised in full. The final score of 15 1 to the Samurai, was much improved and gives hope for the rest of the season. Brodie Jesson adding to his impressive points tally with a fine individual goal. The 3rd line of Telford showing great resilience in not conceding a goal. Coach Dave Fielder quoting after the game 'the kids did what they were told and maintained their shape throughout the game against a very good Sheffield team'.
The team have a week of now before heading to Sutton for an U8s tournament then back to league action at home against Newcastle on the 15th of December.
The club are looking for new faces so anyone who wants to play in the 'fastest and coolest' team sport on the planet get in contact at the Ice Rink and enquire about the beginners course or come down on a Friday night at 4.15pm and speak to the team management.
