Telford Rockets U16 Match Report
Game with Nottingham Cougars at Telford
Saturday 01.12.07 FO 15.15 - 3x 15 minute Periods.
The last 3 homes game saw Rockets move to second place with great hockey played against some of the better teams in Division 1 North.
The time had rolled up to play the League favourites - Nottingham, Unfortunately the Rockets had suffered 2 player injuries in the run up to the game.
including - Dan Schutte suffering 2 broken figures from an earlier inhouse game on the day before the match.
This left the Rockets bench down to 10 players- not ideal for a strong Nottingham side.
The game started with great runs by both teams. With end to end play in the first half of period one.
It was looking to be a great game but there was only going to be one winner.
A 2 minutes infringement for elbows called on the Rockets at 7.01 put the Cougars on a power play.
It took just over a minute for the Nottingham Captain to breach the Rockets defence and score the first goal at 8.05.
Two subsequent penalties called on the Cougars Captain for illegal equipment and slashing were not taken advantage of by the Rockets who were looking for that equaliser. The period ended all to play for at 1- 0 to the Cougars.
What every happened during the interval fired up the Rockets.
37 seconds into the second period saw two neat passes from James Warman and Luke Brittle catching the Cougars defence out of position.
Mike Steventon putting the puck passed the Cougars net minder to make the equaliser at 15.37 - game on!
The pressure was beginning put on Ben Hunt to keep out shot after shot from the Cougars attacking players.
Coming up to the end of the second period at 29.38 saw the Cougars make their second even handed goal to go in 2-1 after 30 minutes.
The Rockets had to work even harder to take up the challenge to come from 2-1 down.
The Rockets battled hard but to no avail as the Cougars made it 3-1 at 38.36.
It was now an uphill struggle but the Rockets in true style were never giving up.
A side line pass by Ryan Twardun to Paul Rigby secured our second goal at 40.42.
The pressure was being to tell on the hard working Rockets defence and we started to look a little tired.
Two more penalties took by the Cougars failed to be converted by the Rockets.
With 1 and a half minutes to go the Cougars scored their fourth goal making them the winners 4-2 at the final whistle.
The Rockets now take a well earned break in the run up to Christmas - Not too much Christmas pud lads their next league game is away to Newcastle on the 6th January.
