10s pre Christmas Cheer
24th Dec, 2007
The Venom Under 10s Ice Hockey team were keen to get back on the winning trail after the back to back defeats suffered at the hands of Hull and Sheffield and it was an eager team that iced on this pre Christmas game against the Flintshire Raptors. The Raptors arrived short handed and iced 2 line's against the Telford 3 line hockey, so the Venom 3rd line was going to have a torrid afternoon against the larger more experienced Flintshire lines.
The puck dropped and Telford were quick to stamp their mark with some sustained pressure on the Flintshire net, but for all the pressure it was Flintshire who broke away and scored the opening goal. This riled the Venom bench and they responded in kind with a goal from Deakan Fielder. The Raptors were not to be undone and they regained the lead with a fine goal. Beth Nickless latched onto a pass from Corey Thompson-Howe to draw the game 2 2 at the end of the first period.
The second period started at a franctic pace with both teams now pushing for more goals and it was the Raptors who emerged from the first few minutes of the second period with 2 goals before a 3rd from Telford by Thompson-Howe. Flintshire opened up the 2 goal lead again with a solo effort from the impressive Kennedy. The Telford 1st line then played an amazing shift rattling in 4 goals to take the lead for the 1st time in the game. Fielder grabbing a couple to get his hat-trick, along with Nickless and Thompson-Howe. The Raptors pulled one back, but Telford replied with 2 more as Nickless got her hat-trick and Fielder his 4th to close the game out at 9 6.
The Spirit of the game for the Venom going to Gareth Gower for his supporting role on the 1st line.
