Telford Rockets U16 Match Report
Game with Newcastle Vipers at Metro Radio Arena Newcastle upon Tyne.
Sunday 06.01.08 FO 16.00 - 3x 15 minute Periods.
Telford Rockets travelled to the Czech Republic for the annual Christmas Cup which has been played since 1999.
Playing against some of the best hockey clubs from the Czech Republic, and other teams from Germany, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Austria, Denmark, Slovakia and Hungary.
Telford have always entered a team and this year was no exception as it is enjoyed by players and parents alike.
Great ice hockey to be experienced and just a little time to do some last minute Christmas shopping in Prague.
Telford won the cup in 2004 in the age group 92/93 so everyone was looking forward to this years tournament.
They had a great result, losing in the final to one of the best U15 Junior teams in Latvian - Riga Profs.
Luke Brittle winning the shots on Goalie competition and the highest points tally of the tournament.
Now back to the serious stuff.
After a long Christmas break they travelled to Newcastle upon Tyne for the first game in 2008 against the Newcastle Vipers.
It also coincided with games for the U12 and U14s all playing on the same day so there was allot of hockey fanatics going up the A1.
It was a good day out for all the teams with wins in all age groups.
Goals were slow to start but we clinched the first on a power play at 05.09 by Paul Rigby assisted by Luke Brittle.
Goals began to come frequently during the next two periods 4 goals came towards the end of the 2nd from Mike ,Paul, Kyle Hewitson and Luke B.
The Rockets were now well in control. In desperation the Vipers changed their net minder to stem the flow but to no avail.
The third period started as the 2nd finished with goals in quick time from Callum x2 , Dan Harrison, Adam Taylor, Luke B and Mike.
Nathan Craig gave excellent service between the pipes and was unlucky not to have a shut out. The Rockets out shot the Vipers 59 to 30 - but had a consolation goal early in the third at 38.08.
This 11 - 1 win after 7 games (5.1.1) puts the Rockets on 11 points. Third in Div 1 behind Nottingham (not lost a game)
and Sheffield but we have games in hand against Sheffield - its looking good half way through the fixtures.
It still needs alot of hard work and team play to make that second place spot for the Nationals - but its there for the taking.
Out next game is on Sat 16th February- away to bottom of the table Flintshire, (after 6 games 98 goals against)
- a goal feast should be had by all !!
