10s burnt by Blaze
5th Feb, 2008
The Venom kids still smarting from the heavy defeat at the hands of Nottingham entered the game fired up and ready to show a Coventry team that had big aspirations that they were not going to roll over. The 1st and 2nd lines set their stall's out early and gave no quarter to a well organised and more experienced Coventry team. The game was played at a fast pace and half chances were being created at both sets of tubes. It was the Venom 3rd line who broke the deadlock with the much improved Jed Moreland feeding Jesson to skate in and fire past the Blaze netminder. This upset the Blaze bench and they set up camp in the Venom half seeking the equaliser. This came when the puck squirmed through under Jones and a Blaze forward was quickest to react and tap it home. This gave the Coventry team a real lift and they went on to breach the Telford net twice more before the break.
The start of the 2nd period had the Blaze further extend their lead when they broke through twice early on to open up a 4 goal gap. The Telford heads dropped, but they battled on and with the score at 8 1, the 1st line who had been pushing for a goal got their reward. Gower threading through to Tipton who turned and fired low into the net. This was to prove only a consolation as the Blaze added a further goal to finish the game at 9 2
Spirit of the game for Telford went to Haydn Price for his tireless work on 2nd line D
