Rocksts Vs Kingston Crunch
27th Mar, 2008
Game with Kingston Crunch at Hull Ice Arena.
Saturday 01.03.08 FO 12.30 - 3x 15 minute Periods.
Rockets On track for the Nationals
Our last outing saw a convincing win against Newcastle 11-1 . Our match against Flintshire on Feb 16th (now TBA)
was cancelled due to injuries and flu problems for the Flintshire team.
Telford Rockets travel to Hull for ''Crunch time'' with Kingston Crunch - a must win to keep the momentum going
for the EIHA UK Ice National Championship in May.
The team were lacking some match practice as the last game was played on Jan 6th but spirits were high knowing that a game
win is just one step closer to the Nationals.
A full team was icing less Callum Taylor - due to a broken big toe injury.
It did not take long for the Rockets to find the twine. A goal at 4.05 by Mike Steventon assisted by a side pass from Luke Brittle
set the tone and pace of the game. Andrew Whitehouse quickly followed with a tap in from a slick pass by Mike Steventon to go 2 up at 7.23.
Kingston Crunch were not out of it and encouragement from the Bench saw two quick equalisers at 11.38 and 12.09.
Not to be out done the Rockets led by Paul Rigby and assisted by Luke Brittle scored our 3 goal at 14.33 to end the first period 3-2.
The second period started with the Crunch becoming a little more physical and penalties started to flow - with 4 minutes taken by Kingston.
This style of play unsettled the Rockets - who took on board 8 minutes but excellent play by our defence pairings of Dan Harrison/ Dan Schutte
and James Warman/Edward Eaton stifled two power play opportunities from Kingston Crunch leaving the 2nd period goal free.
The start of the third saw the Crunch equalise to 3 all at 31.39
The Rockets had to dig deep and were rewarded with an even handed goal by Luke Brittle assisted by Luke Hayward at
33.02 to keep their noses in front at 4-3. The game then moved in favour of the Rockets - controlling the game with rushes to the net
and great forechecking moves. A holding penalty called on the Crunch gave the Rockets a chance to seal the game.
They were rewarded with a power play goal at 39.33 from Andrew Whitehouse to make it 5-3.
We were now into the last five minutes of the game and the Crunch were not giving up scoring a 4th goal at 41.32.
It was getting two close for comfort as it was turning into a one goal game.
One final rush to the net saw Andrew White take his hat trick at 43.58 to great roars and applause from the Telford parents/ bench and players.
The Rockets worked hard throughout the game and came out well deserved winners 6-4 at the final whistle.
Our next game at Manchester 9th March FO 16.30.
